QUEENSTOWN AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB
Enthusiastic Annual Meeting
That every encouragement should be given to the young women of the town to join the club, with a view to participating in the sports training, was the opinion expressed at the annual meeting of the Queenstown branch of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, held last Wednesday.
The secretary was instructed to write to the Girls’ Sports Club extending an invitation to the club to appoint representatives to the next meeting of the association. It was resolved that the annual sports meeting be held on Saturday, December 27, 1947, on the Sports Ground, and it was left in the hands of the secretary to obtain the services of a Pipe Band for the sports day. The application of the Plunket Society for the rights to eater on the day of the sports with supplies of sandwiches and tea was granted. Tenders are to be called for the rights of a soft drinks and ice cream stall. • It was decided that training would commence on Monday evenings, Messrs J. McKinney, J. McDonald, R. Ensor and J. G. Forbes being appointed to act as coaches for group training. Mr J. G. Forbes stated that equipment in the form of javelins and discus had already been obtained and gave the members a demonstration in thoir use and an outline of the origin of such forms of sport. It was decided that all orders for sports trophies must be redeemed by February 15, 1948. The president, Mr C. G. Eoderiquc, referred to the loss of a very keen member of the club in the late Mr W. NOXIOUS WEEDS Several property owners have recently received a notice from the town clerk, as inspector under the Noxious Weeds Act, calling upon them to take action within fourteen days to have all noxious weeds cleared from their properties as well as the road frontages of properties. The council hopes that all property owners will take the necessary action which will do much to clean up the town for the coming tourist season.
