BOWLING SEASON OPENED

Ominous weather conditions on Saiurday afternoon last gave the Wakatipu Bowling Club officials some concern for the success of the official opening of the bowling season. The fears were, however, groundless for only a few drops of rain fell during the afternoon. There was a large attendance of visitors as well as local residents. The arrangements for the opening left nothing to be desired and, thanks to the caretaker and liis staff, the green was in excellent condition for the beginning of the season. Some forty odd players took part in the opening rink games, the season getting away to a good start.

The president, Mr W. 11. Nelson, who declared the season opened, extended a warm welcome to local as well .as visiting bowlers, especially mentioning Arrowtown. He hoped the season would be a successful one and expressed the thanks of the club to the greenkeepers for providing such a good surface. Mrs Nelson rolled up the first bowl amid cheers. A break was made for afternoon tea and all participated in the excellent viands provided from the Kiosk. The following are the details of the games played, president’s names first: W. H.
