Perks and family have returned to Queenstown from Dunedin. * * » Mr J. Gilkison, Invercargill, is the guest of his sister-in-law, Miss J. Thomson. * * * Dr and Mrs Anderson are taking their annual holidays. Dr Cranswick is acting as locum tenens. * * * Sir Reginald Stradling. a chemical adviser to the War Office, during the war visited Wanaka during the week in company with Mr F. W. Furkert, former P.W.D. engineer. During the war Sir Reginald devised a means of screening British factories from hostile aircraft by smoke screens generated from an elaborate firepot. # * * Air I 1 ’red Mjller, historian for the Lake County historical record, is visiting the district gathering information from old settlers. So far lie has accumulated a lot of valuable data. He makes periodical visits and will be pleased to meet any old settlers for interviews. * * # Miss Bennett-Evans, of Wales who holds a Nuffield Foundation Scholarship which has been awarded to three young British farmers, of whom she was the only recipient, has been travelling in the Lakes District for the purpose of visiting hill country runs. She is accompanied by Mrs Walter Yardley of Moa Flat. Her mission is to learn what she can of sheep farming methods in New Zealand. In addressing Women’s Division meetings, she tells how greatly impressed she is with the size of the sheep in New Zealand. On her own farm she runs one sheep to the acre, but very much smaller sheep. She will visit the Invercargill show later in the year and will also go to the North Island. Her stay in New Zealand will be six months.
