Cleaning Tips For You New Home
So you’re moving into a new house! And just in case you’re not one of those lucky ones with a brand new home, here are a few tips. First make sure the chimneys have been swept recently, and if they haven’t, get them swept. It is a good idea to have them swept before you move your furnishings into the house. Clean Tools Your home needs to be scrubbed out from top to bottom first and don’t forget the tools themselves. Start off with your brooms and brushes spick and s|jan. Make some soapy warm water with a dash of ammonia in it and dip each brush up and down in it. Then rinse in clear, warm water the same way. Finish in a rinse of cold, salted water to stiffen the bristles. Shake well and hang up in the air to dry. Dusters and cloths should also be washed and boiled with a little soda in the water. For washing paint, soapy water is the best cleanser and if there are any obstinate marks use a good 'non-abra-sive household cleanser. A little white furniture cream gives a. grand polish to
painted furniture. For dark paint a little vinegar may be added to the final rinsing water. If you have any old pictures or mirrors get to work with methylated spirits. Smears, dust and other marks will disappear like magic and a fine, high polish will result. For the frames of the pictures try onion water for gilt and furniture cream for the wooden ones.
