Queenstown Support Urged for Health Stamp Campaign

Another health stamp campaign is with us—the big annual drive for funds to enable children not completely well in health to regain their strength at some approved health camp—begins on October 1, 1947. In this connection the residents of Queenstown and the surrounding district are asked to support this most worthy cause. As was the case last year, health stamps are valid for postage on correspondence addressed to any part of the world to which postal service is available; and they may also be used for receipts. This year the design of the health stamp is based on the famous statue of “Eros” in Piccadilly Circus, London. The issue comprises two denominations, Id postage plus -kl health (green); and 2d postage plus Id health (red) ; there being 9G stamps in a sheet, which is less than previously (Id stamps, 12s a sheet, 2d, 24s a sheet). Queenstown had the proud distinction last year of obtaining the highest first day sales in Otago and Southland insofar as the country suburban offices were concerned (£142) and it is hoped to maintain that position next month. It will, however, require an effort on everybody’s part. The local organiser, Mr W. Smith, postmaster, is very confident that the residents —like the business community—will give this project their sincere and wholehearted support. To boost up the first day sales in particular, it is suggested that residents purchase their health stamps on the first day—that is Wednesday. Anyone who wishes to purchase health stamps to the value of £1 or more may leave their order with Mr Smith during the coming week and he will be pleased to see that the stamps are delivered on the opening day.
