Elizabeth Arden is Not a Legend.
But a Real Person
Written in scroll letters over a bright scarlet door near 54th Street in New York is a name to conjure with —a name known to wpmen almost throughout the world; The name is Elizabeth Arden and it represents neither a legend nor a formula, but a real person. Elizabeth Arden, who works high up on the top floor above the scarlet door, is a hard working woman and has the reputation of being five years ahead of her rivals. She proved this during the war years when she was invited by a body of army surgeons to collaborate with them in finding new creams to help burns and heal scar tissues. Moreover, the results, although kept secret at the time, were a triumphant success. Simple Formula Although she has been in business for a great many years her face is timeless and what impresses persons most is her lord: of health and naturalness. She has fair curly hair, unplucked eyebrows, ami an apparent lack of rouge. Miss Arden gave her formula for looking young and described it as simple apart from a certain amount of time and will-power. When she first wakes up in the morning she splashes her face with cold water, then she takes a pad of cotton wool and dabs her face all over with astringent, leaving the pads on under her eyes for five minutes.
She follows tliis up with deep breathing exercises. She gets on the tips of her toes, takes four steps forward breathing deeply and stretching up at the ' same time as though she were reaching for something. After the fourth step she relaxes on the balls of her feet and walks ordinarily for four steps, breathing out this time. Then she starts all over again and goes through the same process a couple of dozen times. j That Youthful Feeling “No woman,” says Miss Arden, “can
look young if she doesn’t feel young, and feeling young depends on good health. Strain and tension, however, are the twin curses of the modern world. I say to all girls, cure your clients of that and the rest will follow.” Miss Arden’s hobby is horses. She has her own stables and in recent years in open competition with men this very feminine architect of beauty has made yet another fortune from breeding and racing. Her stud is famous and so are the stables named “Maine Chance" that carry her colours.
