Popular Post Office Member Farewelled

Miss Ann McEntyre, who has been transferred on promotion to the Invercargill Post Office, has been the guest of honour at farewell ceremonies recently. On Tuesday of last week a large number of friends assembled at the residence of Mr J. T. McEntyre, Miss McEntyre’s brother. Mr E. L, Thompson, while wishing Miss McEntyre every success in her new position, expressed the regret of the whole district at losing such a popular member. He recalled Miss McEntyre’s unfailing energy and cooperation in the recent Queen Carnival, of which she was eventually crowned the successful Services’ Queen, He also referred to her cheerful and willing services in dealings with the public in the course of her postal duties.. In asking Miss McEntyre to accept from her many friends in Arrowtown and district a well-filled envelope, he said that the good wishes of the whole community went with it. Mr E. B. Taylor also spoke of Miss McEntyre’s efforts on behalf of the Arrow Entertainers, of which company she was an able and popular performer. He assured her of the good wishes of the Entertainers. After the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” Miss McEntyre suitably replied. During the evening games and competitions were played and a happy community sing was held with Mrs J. B. Summers at the piano, assisted by Mrs Ken Rea, with the b&vjo-ukelele. Miss McEntyre returned to Invercargill on Thursday morning. Members of the staff of the Arrowtown post office at a gathering on August 12, presented Miss McEntyre with a useful gift. The Postmaster, Mr E. B. Taylor,, made the presentation.
