Mickey Rooney’s role in M.G.M.’s “National Velvet” marks his first appearance in a Technicolor production except for a. brief part in “ Thousands Cheer.”
It was his appearance as guest star in that picture that assured “National Velvet” of being filmed in colour, to take advantage of beautiful natural outdoor settings. All others of Rooney’s 129 pictures, including 78 Mickey McGuire comedies, have been in black and white.
