Arrowtown Couples Chosen for Waltzing Contest at Cromwell

Thirteen couples who hoped to compete in the Otago Central Centennial Waltzing Championship to be held at Cromwell on September 13, were tested in a dance conducted by the Alexandra Pipe Band at Arrowtown last Friday. The attendance was fair.

Miss D. Thompson and Mr M. Mclntyre and Miss E. Cowan and Mr R, Stevenson were chosen from the 13 couples to compete at Cromwell.

Mary Lillian Newman, of Cromwell, was the winner of the competition. The statue medley was won by Miss Shirley Pettigrew and Mr A, Miller. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs A. Erridge and Mrs Nyhon. During the evening Mr G. Wilson, Alexandra, thanked everyone for coming and hoped they all had an enjoyable evening.

Supper was supplied by the Alexandra Pipe Band. Mr G. Wilson made a very efficient Master of Ceremonies.
