OBITUARY

Mr Alexander Geer

*Mr Alexander Geer, Arrowtown, whose death occured recently at Dunedin, lived almost all his life in Otago.

Born at Quartzville, Bannockburn, in 1872, Mr Geer was the sixth child of the late Mr and Mrs Jesse Geer, of Bannockburn, At the age of 10 years Mr Geer had lost both his parents, and from then until manhood was cared for by the late Mr and Mrs James Lawrence. He was educated at the Bannockburn School, and in 1901 married Miss Isabel Chalmers, of Waitiri. He followed the occupation of shepherd. For eight years he successfully managed the Mount Albert Station at Makaroa, and then came to the Wakatip district, where he was head shepherd on several stations. Mr Geer loved the hills and his dogs, and was always very proud of the fact that he had tied a New Zealand champion. Mr is survived by his wife, two daughters and pne son. The eldest son, John, 'died 13 months ago.
