QUEENSTOWN ROUTED

Old Boys Show Great Dash

On Saturday a match between the Queenstown team and ex-players was played on the Queenstown Sports Ground, A fair number of spectators turned out to witness famous players of previous years stage a comeback and outmanoeuvre the Queenstown side to the tune of 13 points to 5. The teams were as follows: —

Old Boys: R. Robins, J. Murdoch, C. Gray, J. Hood, F. Gray, S. Hansen, J. Thwaites, G. Lynch, W. Robins, Walker, F. Brown, 0. Wheatley, F. Anderson, L. Hanrahan. J. McKinney, J. Gibson. ,

Queenstown: R. Anderson, D. Wade, T. Luckie, A. Sanders, L. Fordo, W. Anderson, R.' Payne, A. Butson, L. Inder, J. Cosgrove, R. Buchanan, F. Rae, R. Cumberbeach, J. Munro, J. Elliot.

/ From the kick off it could be seen Old Boys had more under their hats than their opponents, and after a brilliant break by Wheatley down the side line Old Boys were awarded a penalty, which Murdoch made no mistake with. Hard forward play followed, with Old Boys’ forwards showing much more dash than the Queenstown team. From some open play near the Old Boys’ goal line L. Inder gathered in to go across between the posts. L. Fordo added the extra points.

At this stage R. Robins, G. Lynch, J. Hood, and “Snowy” Hansen were playing an outstanding game in the forwards for Old Boys. The next try came from a splendid understanding between the Old Boys’ half, Robins, and their first five-eighth, Walker, the last-named securing the ball, eluding the Queenstown backs, to score in a handy position. Murdoch converted.

Old Boys’ backs were handling the ball with unerring skill, and J. McKinney, at full-back, was finding the line with great length. The next try for Old Boys came from an interception

by Thwaites, who ran twenty-five yards

to score well out, Murdoch converting * with another splendid kick. Although no points were registered in the second half, the Old Boys forwards gave their hacks a monopoly of the ball, and some pretty and tricky movements were witnessed, Lynch, R. Robins, Murdoch and Wheatley all being unlucky in not scoring.
