QUEENSTOWN PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE.

Sir,—We were compelled to postpone the annual meeting of the above owing to the small attendance, and the annual meeting is now to take place on Tuesday, August 5. 1 appeal to businessmen and citizens generally to rally round and give this meeting the support it deserves. The Progressive League was formed not so that a few could benefit . from its activities, but rather that the whole community should benefit. One of the aims of the League is to make Queenstown an all-the-year-round tourist resort, and if this can be accomplished, and there is no reason why it should not, Queenstown will go ahead with leaps and bounds. #

Those readers who care to look backward 14 or 15 years can remember how easy it was to obtain accommodation in the hotels, boarding houses and camping ground. To-day Queenstown is being penalised by the fact that in the past sufficient progress has not been made in this direction for an increasing tourist, population, and the League is vitally concerned with this matter.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. Parry, and the general manager of the Government Tourist and Health Departments, have both stated that they are interested in Queenstown, but very pertinently asked the Council and League representatives “What have you done for yourself?” Plans which the League had for the improvement of Queenstown are now before the Borough Council, and we are waiting to hear if they will give their endorsement to these plans or not. Up till now it has not been easy, and there are many who criticise, but encouragement was given from the Government representatives already mentioned. We hope that our appeal will rally the businessmen and citizens round us for the common cause, and that a strong committee will be elected for the coming twelve months. —I am, etc., J. McDonald, President.
