FOOTBALL NOTES

By Scrum-Half.

Greedy, the Nightcaps half-back, gave a classy display; this player is in the running for provincial honours this year. Leo Fordc played a good game at second five-eighth. He handles very well and has a nice cut in. J. Thwaites plays a heady game, playing as a back or a forward it is all the same to Jim. J. Munro, R. Buchanan, J. Elliott , and Les Inder played very well in the forwards for Queenstown. Don Wade, played a good defensive game. If this player couid improve his handling of the ball he would develop into a really good winger. Bill Anderson is playing quite well at full-back, but is’ inclined to play too far back. It was good to see the visting backs and forwards combining in passing rushes. In Scrum-Half’s opinion it was a pity that a Wakatipu team was not fielded against this combination.' Football is at low ebb in the district this year, and it is the writer’s opinion that more outside competition such as this game would encourage a better type of game. Rumour has it that the “ Old Boys ” are' training hard for the game with the local fifteen this coming Saturday. The Old Boys will field a very heavy pack and should provide their pacy backs with plenty of ball. T. Mulhern, North Otago representative and a former Queenstown forward, will probably captain the Old Boys’ fitteen. the local fifteen this coming SaturJ’he following players have been undergoing training for the “ Old Boys,” and the final selectien will be known on the day of the match: —A. Curtis, J. Murdoch, T. Mulhern, Y. McMillan, G. Lynch, R. Davidson, W. Davidson, R. Robins, R. Robertson. W, Hayward. A. Inglis, W. Robins, O. Wheatley, J. Muir, L. Hanrahan, W. Davies, J. Hood, J. Sanders, F. Gray, G. Buxton, Jim Buckham, J. McKinney, P. Dougherty, S. Summers, C. Roderique, A. Tripp, R. Hood, Stan Maude, G. Walsh, Ted Battin, D. Galbraith and V. Gcrken. Onlooker would like to submit the following team to represent Wakatipu, giving preference to players showing best defensive ability which he considers is somewhat lacking in local club football: Full-back, R. Anderson (Q.) ; threequarters, D. Wade (Q.), Sandy McLean (C.), J. Allan (C.) ; five-eighths, J. Thompson (C.), J. Saunders (C.), J. Spence (C.) ; forwards, Douglas (C.), Inder (Q.), Eiliott (A.); locks, Dennison (A.), Rae (Q.) ; side row, Reid (C.), Cumberbeach (Q.); back row,.P, Ayson (A.).
