SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The monthly meeting of the Arrowtown school committee was held on Tuesday, June 10.

Those present were Mr M. Elliot (chairman), Messrs Ogilvie, Given and the secretary, Mrs Ritchie.

The secretary of the Southland Education Board wrote in reply regarding The installation of the electric light in the teacher’s residence and stated that although there has been considerable delay regarding the erection of the new building the board hoped that a price acceptable to the department will eventually be obtained and consequently it had no wish to go to heavy expenditure in installing electric light in a building which would be demolished in a year or two. IJowever, it was appreciated that the teacher was - being inconvenienced sand consequently the committee was authorised to arrange with the local electrician to install a limited number of lights. The secretary reported that arrangements had been made with Mr Nelson, of Queenstown, for five lights and a point.

The secretary of the board forwarded a copy of the Commission’s report on iba recent visit to the school. The report had been adopted by the board *t its last meeting.
