EXCURSION FARES TO HEAD OF TAKE ON PUBLIC HOLIDAYS
11l future when a public holiday falls on a scheduled head of the lake trip from Queenstown, the Railways Department has decided to issue day excursion fars, which are half of the ordinary winter fare. The reduction in these fares should make this trip more attractive for all.
TRACKS AND HUTS AT HEAD OF LAKE WAKATIPU
The Tourist Department lias made a comprehensive inspection of their huts and tracks at the head of Lake Wakatipil. As an outcome therefrom extensive repairs hath to huts and tracks 1 o v will lie carried out. it is hoped, before the next tramping season commences. During the war years attention . could not be given to these items, and consequently they have fallen into disrepair.
LAKE LEVEL •s ■ • The present level of . Lake VVakatipu is at the 3ft mark. While this seems .extremely low, a Mail reporter has been advised that this is the normal level for this period of the year.
RAILWAY AND TOURIST OFFICE The Railways Department is at tiresent making plans for improving and enlarging the present Queenstown office. These alterations will give greater facilities for the handling of passengers and business, especially during peak periods.
