Mr T. L. Mac Donald, M.P., acknowledged receipt of copies of correspondence regarding questions raised with the Prime Minister. —Received. The report 'of the Inspector of Health, which •:tfhatscVen sanitary' inspections and that eight milk samples had been tat# was (received. Mr iy. Smith,, postmaster, acknowledged ifeommhhication regarding installation o| telephone facilities, in the residences o|,iMr Robertson and the caretaker of the lamping ground, and was hopeful that the-; two new exchange, boards which are on hand, will be 'proceeded with in the corpse two or three months.^—Received; •-'
Mrs Hyndraan wrote regarding a boroughji sewer, . that ran through her propertJ| and trusted, that the council would diet overstep her consideration and ma|lie additional connections to this line. —Received. . , .
The Medical: Office - of Health, Invercargill, Advised tlie. new levy for contribution for services of Inspector of Health .-i-Received/; ! A The (Innscrvator'of’ Fish and Game, Mr B. Hon. VO. E. Parry, .Minister of Internal Affairs, advised that it was proposed to Js-ovidc five or six State houses in QueenMiWjJtf- the. Two sites had been purchased, however, and tenders would bejjtjalleii immediately, and it was expected |hat:-Jand for a further three houses would -be; available next month. to thank Minister for expediting Blousing question. T. H. tiillciitire, secretary of the Fire Brigade, advised that Ronald A. Inder had been-Sappointed a fireman in place of Deputy Superintendent T. M. Davidson, who ! |jad resigned. —Decided that R. Thu Southland— Progress League invited the councilto appoint its representative to the league, and advised the intention of the league in convening a meeting of Members of Parliament and representatives of logai Ibodjos, for which remits could he forwarded. Mr J. N. The Inspector, drew the council’s ‘ attention to the potgntialytdangpr. of .children running on to the main roads.— It .was decided to write to both school principals drawing attention to this danger.
Mr L. J. Schmitt, general manager of Tourist Resorts, advised that the Hon. Minister-in-Charge had gone into the matter of street improvements for the borough, and on the completion of papers the matter would he forwarded to the Main Highways Council. —Resolved to thank Mr Schmitt for the interest he has taken. Mrs A. E. Corner asked if she could have the electric light installed on to a caravan on her section. —To be advised that a caravan does not comply with the building regulations and suggest that she lease a site in the camping ground. The VVakatipu District Football SubUnion applied for permission to charge admission fees on the new sports area when used for football matches. — Granted.
The Inspector of Fire Brigades. Wellington, stated that he had been advised that repairs had been carried out to the damaged’trailer pump and that the pump was now in good running order. Ho also advised that 1000 ft of hose had previously been delivered, and it was decided to forward an additional 500 ft. on the motion of Crs Sew Hoy and Wheatley that a letter of thanks be forwarded.
It was also resolved that his Worship and Or Lindsay sign an agreement between the council and the Department regarding the trailer pump. Or Lindsay suggested that the trailer pump could ho used to supplement the town water supply if the occasion arose.
Mr ' C. ' Greancy wrote offering the council £5 for the purchase of the old fire engine.—Declined. The clerk stated that ho had been advised' that certain parts were missing off the' old fire engine.-—lt was decided to wrote to the Fire Brigade for a full report on the fire engine and pump, and the possibility of putting this engine in commission again. Cr Liridsay was also authorised to make full investigations. •
Mr P. J. O’Connell was granted permission to use the present building on his property with the addition of the erection of a small lean-to as a garage, subject to the supervision of the building inspector.
Library Committee Report The librarian reported that five residents joined the library during the month, and 10 visitors bad taken advantage of the service.—lt was decided that the librarian he paid while off on sick leave.
Works Committee Arising out of the Works Committee report the matter of securing the services of a permanent caretaker for the camping ground was held over till the next meeting of the Council. Cr Lindsay brought up the matter of finishing off the-grading of Adelaide street, and it was referred to the Works Committee to inspect same.
Cr Thompson wrote advising the council that he had made inquiries regarding a lawn mower best suited for the borough streets and reserves, also a flame-thrower.- —If was decided to hold the matter over until the return of fr Thompson.'
