RUGBY FOOTBALL

On Saturday last Queenstown met Arrowtown, at Queenstown, in the second round of , the Wakitipu District Sub-Union Cup series. Also the Teachers Cup held by Queenstown was at stake. The teams were as follows: — Queenstown. —Backs: R. Payne, A. Sanders,* D. Wade, J. Thwaite. J. Anderson, T. Luckie, W. Anderson; forwards: F. Rae, A. Butsbn, L. Inder, L. Fordo (captain), R. Buchanan, R. Cumberbeach, R. Sanders and J. Munro.

Arrowtown.—Backs: M. Dudley, L. Oakes, W. Scott, J. Little, B. Fletcher, D. Thompson, A. Bailey; forwards: G. Elliott, P. Ayson, K. Saunders, J. Scott, G. Jenkins, M. McEntyre, V. Hanson and J. Wilcox.

Playing on a heavy ground, with at intervals a slight drizzle, the game resulted into a hard forward struggle with very few back movements and resulted in a win for Queenstown by an unconverted try and a penalty goal six points to nil. No score came till well on into the second half when D. Wade collected a long pass and after a lucky kick through, grounded the ball for a try well out. J. Anderson failed to convert. Shortly afterwards Arrowtown were penalised for a scrum infringement and J. Anderson placed a good kick over the bar. Arrowtown rallied and were unlucky not to score and were pressing hard on the Queenstown line when T. Luckie broke through running 25 yards before throwing out a wild pass which A. Sanders failed to collect. The game concluded shortly afterwards. The position of the teams at the conclusion of the second round is as follows: — P. W. L. D. F. A. Pts.
