ARROWTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL

Present at the ordinary monthly meeting of the Arro\vto\vit Borough Council were FTis Worship the -Mayor (Air Pd. L. Thompson). C'rs .7. \V. Reed. K. B. Taylor, .7. W. Henderson, and 77. J. C'owic. An apology was received from Cr W. .7. Shaw. The Deputy Mayor. Mr .7. W. Reed, expressed the sympathy of the council members to tlie Mayor on the loss of his mother, and to Cr Henderson on 'the loss of Ids grandmother. The Council stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mrs R. Thompson. The minutes of the meeting held on April 2!) were confirmed, outward correspondence approved and inward received. Mr H. Davies. Queenstown, wrote stating the inability to commence the gravelling contract until the middle of June. Mr T. A. Shaw’s application for lining to stop frost drip from the roof of borough cottage, was held over, and Crs. Cowie and Reed were appointed to inspect and report to the next meeting. The Wakatip District Football Subunion’s application for permission to charge for entrance to the fooothall ground was granted. The Health Inspector’s report was received, plumbing and drainage, one inspection, sale of milk, two. The samples of milk analysed were correct and passed the department’s requirements. The Temuka Borough Council and the McKenzie County Council wrote stating that they had no grader for sale. A memo from the Department of Internal Affairs, setting out the procedure for application for subsidies for war memorials was received and it was decided to hand same to the War Memorial Committee. The Department, of Internal Affairs also wrote stating that the Registrar of Electors would supply parliamentary j rolls to local bodies. It was decided to ( hold over 1 consideration of the proposed i public conveniences pending further information' re costs. j

The chairman of the Works Committee reported on work carried out during the month, that the fire plug's had been cleaned and salted, and that the work in the cemetery would be commenced next month. The report was adopted. Owing to a hurst pipe in the domain, the water to Mr Chalmers’s house was cut off. The dayman and Cr, Henderson to repair the pipe and attend to the pipeline to obviate the danger of frosting. It , was decided to lift the three-inch ■galvanised pipe at the hall and Crs. Shaw and Reed were authorised to sell same to the best advantage. Cr Taylor reported that the lamp at the Post Office corner had been replaced with a stronger one. It was decided to apply to the Power Board to have file light shifted to the bank corner where it would be more effective in lighting the Post Office hill. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the football club with reference to the booking of the hall and the dealing of the hall for dances. Cr Cowie reported that the picket fence at the hall had been repaired, Cr Taylor’s action in procuring paint for same being endorsed. It was resolved that a heating point be installed in the library. It was decided that the Finance Committee meet on Monday, June 2.4 to discuss the estimates for tin l coming yea r. Accounts amounting to £42 t!s lid were passed for payment.
