SOCIAL EVENING
On Thursday last a large number of adults and young people gathered in the Star Theatre, when a gift evening to Miss Phyllis Butterworth, on,the eve of her marriage,- was held, All present spent * very pleasant time, musical items, a few happy speeches, and games being fhe order, the following contributing items J Misses Thomson, Eddieston (2), Mona Ellett, G. Melville, E. Ansell, Nichols, Mesdames D. Rennie and M. Beoroft, and Messrs D. Rennie, V. Aitkenhead, and K. Stewart. During the evening Mr C. P. Thompson, on behalf of the congregregatiotl of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, presented Miss Butterworth with a pair of handsome silver entree dishes, suitably inscribed. Rev W. Butterworth feelingly returned thanks on behalf of his daughter.' Gifts of all descriptions: *nd variety were also showered on the young lady, marking in a small way the esteem in which she is held in the community. A happy gathering broke up^ with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne,"' '
