MASONIC SOCIAL

A PLEASANT FUNCTION. , i

The opportunity of arailing themselves of the hospitality of v the W.M. and brethren of the Duke of Albany Lodge (Helensville) was evidently fully appreciated by wives, families and friends on Thursday evening last, " when fully 240 persons - ' assembled, in response to invitations, in the Agricultural Hall at*, a social evening given by the ; brethren. The question of hold- , * ing a ball this season had been '-:' / considered, but for several rea- ' sons the idea of a social received preference. It is safe to say that everyone present probably enjoy-i\ ed themselves better than they/*sfr "' would have at a ball. Prior to V , Ihe first dance, Wor. Bro. W. F. '' Coutts, W.M., on behalf of the brethren, cordially welcomed the guests, and expressed the hope that all present would thoroughly enjoy themselves. , v

A feature of the evening was the many beautiful and stylish dresses worn by the ladies, which added a touch of brilliance and dignity to the occasion. Dancing was thoroughly enjoyable, the floor being, in perfect order, and the music by Miss S. Malligan. (piano) and MrS. Holland (violin) sans reproche. Extras were kindly contributed by Misses Kearie and Vercoe. Vocal items were given by Bro. Norries and Brb. H? Hallett, and banjo selections by Bro. R. Screaton, all of which were much appreciated. Accompaniments were played by Miss Wilson, Mrs Hallett; and Mr F. Eddleston. , ;

The supper adjournment near midnight found everyone bent on enjoying the good; fare provided. The usually bare supper roomhad been tastefully decorated; and the supper tables revealed artistic touches also. Trifles, jellies, cakes, etc., were done full justice, and everyone was content. , .- Dancing was kept up till the early hours, and the guests went their several homeward ways highly pleased with the eveningts enjoyment, and deeply thankful to the Masonic fraternity for their hospitality.
