HELENSVILLE v. WAIMAUKU
The game between the above teams, " ' \ played on the Showground on Saturday / iV last, resulted in a jwin tor Helensville by 5 points to 3. A. hatd wind blowing across the field adversely affected the •' f play. Helensville kicked off against the *'* wind, and were on Uip defeuce all the " \ time until 'the dimi^e over.. VVaimauku tr\ iiijr hard to scor< j in th" second "",, spell, with the wind, J I'eugclly, irom d nice opening, scored a good try, Ced. ~ McLeod converting from a difficult kick. / l" The third spell saw a dogged attempt by *■'" Waimauku to equalise, and an equally dogged defence by Helensville. The last - quarter saw Te Tuhi secure and get over for Wjaimauku; Kerr-Taylor failed $3~\J^ . convert,, and the game ended-i-Helenß-^ "J';, ville 5, Waimauku^ 3. Mr J. Dowper 2^" refereed. ..The game was nothing to write koine" about, and was marred at times by unnecessary rough play. The tendency of players to argue with the referee is reminiscent of the back-blocks, and is out of place by members of teams who-aspire to representative honours. The constant appealing of a Waimauku player, by - ; holding his^/rm in the air, must seriously ' interfere with his game. This unfortunate habit marked this playej as the most '< conspicuous on the ground in ,the Kai-para-Whangarei match. ■
