ENTERTAINMENTS

VAUDEVILLE AND MYSTERY

If you believe a hearty laugh begets cheefulness, you surely cannot do better than see the laughter show which will be presented by the Levante & Keech Co. of illusionists from Maskelyne and Cook's, London,' who appear here in the Lyric Theatre next Monday night. The extraordinary versatility of Levante & Keech probably accounts for their phenomenal world-wide success. Their entertainment has been created for the purpose of making the world happier by radiating .happiness in every direction, and exposing the fraud and trickery underlying spiritualist phenomena. At [various times there have visited Helensville people with little or no knowledge in entertaining, more especially in magic. Entertainments of this kind do much harm, and bring into discredit performers who. visit us. Levante, who is responsible for the conjuring portion of the programme, is one of the greatest of modern mysterymen who have ever visited these shores. He produces laughter and amazement by apparently defying nature's laws-. Keech, who controls the next part of the entertainment, is a man of remarkable gifts, giving to the world at various times amazing exposures of dabblers in the occult. He is a thorn in the side of mediums, fortune - telling mountebanks and fakirs, who prey on the credulity of the pnblic. Keech gives astounding exposures and explanationsjof " spirit writing," " cabinet seances," " materialisations," "spirit photography," and other so-called, phenomena. The vaudeville part of the entertainment is headed by the Stanleys (late with Fullers), who present remarkable sharpshooting and juggling acts, interspersed with song and story. Miss Tup Marsh will present Oriental dances and classical studies. A good house at popular prices is assured.
