CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINMENTS.
WE have never known a school children's entertainment to be poorly attended, therefore £i was no surprise to see the Lyric Theatre packed with people last Thursday night.' No matter what class of programme is put on —■ good, bad or indifferent—parents and friends flock to see it. This is as it should be, for such an entertainment is more of a pleasure for the children, and no adult attends in the expectation of seeing anything " grand," though occasionally a surprise is sprung on the audience by the discovery of vocal or acting talent not expected. The happiness of the little children, their sublime freedom from shyness, their easy innocent manners on the stage —■ their don't- care-what-you-think demeanour—are sufficient reward for all adults who attend, be they parents or not. Though a toocritical person might easily find fault with the merits of some of these entertainments, the fact is often lost sight of that a. great amount of patient work is'put in by teachers and. others in preparing the children for the concert. This is no easy task, as much time and patience must be used before the children are fit to appear on the public platform. Yes, the annual reunion of children and parents is good for'all, and may they never cease to take place.
