NOTES.
Last Saturday's game between Wai- "':' mauku and Helensville A. was a well- •:, contested one, and Waimauku, winning ;'*'' by 6 points to 3, were lucky. The scores ''I all came in the first quarter—C. Fletcher kicking a penalty goal for Waimauku a few x minutes after the start, H. Hart- 'v. scoring for Helensville a few minutes*^ - after, and just before the quarter change r : over off-side play resulted in L. fTerrTaylor, getting over. The second half was decidedly in favour of Helengyille, and Waimauku had to iplay aJwat * defensive game throughout to pnrj;,/nt ■■- their opponents scoring. Mr J. Downer «£ ' refereed. The appearance of the teams has been much improved now that every player . i wears a uniform jersey. Helensville teams were the last to drop the 'Tag, tag and bobtail" appearance ,on the field, but with Glorit and Waimauku appearing in proper colours, they could not very well do other than follow suit. Several improvements are noticeable on the local ground. The erection of a wire to keen spectators off the line is a good idea, and the appointment of a caretaker for the dressing-room has resulted '{ in more orderly behaviour on the part of •[ players. A notice board stating the price ) of admission has been erected, which saves argument with the gatekeeper. This \ also explains, probably, why so manyprefer to stay out on the road while a match is in progress. A collection taken up among these onlookers might result in »: a few " sprats" or ■' thrummers." The K.R.U. are fortunate in possessing "" an energetic secretary in Mr J. Stanaway, who doesn't mind a bit of work in the interests of the game. The improvements mentioned above are mainly due to his \ initiative. So many officials are prone to talk about what should be done, without the least intention of doing anything personally. Helensville teams for next Saturday's matches, chosen by the selectors, at the beginning of this week, are not available for publication to-day. A little more promptness would be appreciated. It is said that the Glorit team to play Helensville on Saturday will be stronger than that which played against Waimauku recently, but not yet up to the . standard of last year's fifteen. The ' players live many miles apart and see one another only on Saturdays ; Glorit, a half-time school, only has five pupils, so the population there is not overcrowded, and the district does rather well to get a team at all. It is doubtful if H. Mather or R. Gardner will be fit.to play on Satnrday, both suffering from lujured limbs. The policy of paying a man to look : after the gate receipts at the local football ground proved very profitable on Saturday last, when over £8 was collected. The K.R.U. had to be almost pushed into doing this, and are now congratulaticg themselves that it has turned out so well. A meeting of the K.R.U. will be held on Saturday evening.
