A brief discussion took place as to whether the Board should make a special levy'' for the improvement of the rough piece of road between the dairy factory and the concrete bridge.—Mr H. Aitkenhead had . informed the chairman that his council had no money for the work. —It was decided to ordcir throe trucks of metal, and ask the council to contribute a similar quantity. Library. Cr. Lambert asked the position of the Library and the Board. — The chairman said the library was not patronised so well as it ought to be. Formerly supervision cost nothing, but through the policy of*another chairman it now cost the Board £26 a year. He had hope of moving Hie building back to a better position and doing more tree-planting. —On the chairman's suggestion, one member of the Board is to visit and report on the library each month. A " suggestion-book " is to be placed in the library. Concrete Road. Cr. Lambert said he would like to see the Board experiment with the making of a small piece of concrete road. He believed in time the main streets could be done without the cost being greatly felt. —The chairman and other members favoured the idea; perhaps a small rate might be levied for the porpose. —Resolved to consult the engineer about the matter and Cr. Lambert will give notice of motion to strike a special rate for the purpose. GENERAL. The clerk said the dog collars were now on the way. The order had been mislaid. The chairman made a statement in regard to the water and drainage loan. The bank had suggested a sinking fund of £100. The volume of rates now being greater would relieve the position. It was stated that 50 " t >hyboxes," returned from Dar^avillo and now lyintc utthe local wh.-u-f, could be bough! by the B,>urd.
Cr. West said two or three ratepayers were complaining about their next-door neighbour not being connected with the drainage system. —The chairman said that every house within 100 feet of a sewer could be compelled to join yup. The Board, of course, was losing revenue through those n-ot connected. Resolved, that the health inspector be asked to pay a visit to Helensville. Cr. West said better drainage was very necessary at a certain part near the railway yard. Or. Screaton suggested the labelling of the different streets, as a good deal of confusion now existed. —The chairman thought they needed a re-christening of streets. In reply to question, the chairman said about 30 barrels of tar were required to complete the main streets. —It was decided to order 20 more barrels now. The feasibility of lighting the main streets from the Lyric plant was not favoured by members. One tender at £25 was received for painting the Board's office. — Members thought the price too heavy, and it was decided that the Board buy the paint and get the work done. A number of accounts were read and passed for payment.
