HELENSVILLE DOMAIN BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The adjourned meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday evening last. There were present Messrs Jas, Stewart (chairman), West, Screaton, J. F. Lambert, jnr., Coutts, Forrester, and Downer. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. MONEY FOR'SEATS. A letter was read from Mr H. Aitkenhead, forwarding a cheque, for £12, proceeds of a concert at Parakai on Boxing Night, money to be devoted to providing more seats in the Domain Ground. Members expressed appreciation of the concert promoters' efforts. t MORE WAGES. Application from the caretaker and assistant gardener for increases in wages were received. A good deal of discussion ensued over the question of labour, awards, etc. It was decided to consider the question fully at a future meeting. CARETAKER'S REPORT. The caretaker detailed routine work in his monthly report. The receipts for the month (including the holidays) amounted to £111 Is—£7o 19s for baths and £40 2s for games. The receipts for the swimming baths, members thought decidedly poor, while the games receipts were considered very satisfactory, constituting a record. DRAINAGE. The question of drainage from the baths was discussed at length. The drainage from the swimming bath is stated to be absolutaly inadequate and requires deepening. The theory was advanced that slime alleged to be in the water at times comes back through the drain. It was decided to send a workman out to clean the drain. HOT WATER. On account of the most recent bores not giving a sufficient supply the question of linking up with the Hinemoa supply (where water is going to waste) was discussed. On the motion of Mr Coutts. seconded by Mr Downer, it was decided to get three-inch earthenware-pipes to connect up the supply.—Carried. TEA KIOSK, ETC. Correspondence which had passed between the Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates), the Board of Trade, and the Domafn Board relating to the proposed tea kiosk and ladies'swimming bath, was read. It is proposed to lift £1200 of the grant available for these purposes immediately, and to get another £400 after March 31st. It was stated that the Minister of Tourist and Health Resorts (Hon. Nosworthy) would probably visit the district in the near future. ACQUIRING SMALL RESERVE. A small reserve of 18 acres adjoining the Board's property, at present held under lease by the Marine Department, was the subject of correspondence between the Board and the Minister of Public Works, who wrote that he would confer with the Minister of Marino re getting the reserve placed under jurisdiction of the Board. ACCOUNTS. The credit balance stands at £130. A number af current accountsi were passed for payment,
