CONCERT AT PARAKAI

VERY SUCCESSFUL

The variety entertainment organised by Mr R, H. Sarsfield, and Mesdames Aitkenhead and Rennie, and given in the Parakai Hall on Boxing Night, proved an unprecedented success. The audience was large and enthusiastic, the general opinion being that the concert was one of the best amateur performances ever held in the district. Mr R. H. Sarsfield, who is leaving for America on a lecturing tour, showed himself an excellent humorist and mimic, and the audience was quite carried away by his versatile rendering of "Carry, Carry, Carrie " and " Goodbye New Zealand Town." The programme was replete with bright and amusing items, one being rendered by ladies from Hinemoa House, twelve costumed and masked figures led by Mrs Fraser. Another clever item was the quartette "ProPhundo Basso," in which Mr R. E. Taylor ably acted the part of " Pro Phundo," supported by Mrs Becroft, and Mr and Mrs Rennie.

Solos were tastefully sung by Miss Prangnell, Mrs Rennie (for the children), Messrs Eddleston, Rennie, Aitkenhead, Norries, and Hallett, the last three gentlemen being recalled. A duet by Messrs Taylor and Rennie (in costume) and a humorous recitation by MiTaylor provoked much amusement. A pianoforte solo and accompaniments were played by Miss Keane and accompaniments also by Mrs Hallett and Miss Eddleston.

Mr H. Aitkenhead, as chairman, thanked the performers and announced the takings as £16. After paying expenses, £13 approximately will be handed to the Domain Board to provide extra seats in the Spring Grounds. The entertainment was followed by an enjoyable little dance, to good music voluntarily supplied.
