WOODHILL

A very pleasing function was held in connection with the Tennis Club dance on New Year's Eve. The hall was comfortably filled and the prospects of a pleasant evening were assured. Mr J. Nathan officiated as M.C., and carried out his duties to the satisfaction of all. Immediately after supper Mr H. Monk rose to make a presentation. He said that as Mrs de Montalk was leaving the district the residents and Tennis Club wished to repay their guest for the great interest she had taken in connection with the Tennis Club. In asking Mrs de Montalk's acceptance of a silver entree dish, he hoped that in after years it would help to remind her of the friends she was leaving in Woodhill. Mrs de Montalk, who was greeted with applause, said it came as a great surprise to her, and in thanking the donors very kindly for their present said she would always look back with _pleasure at her sojourn in the district. Anything she had done had been a pleasure to herself. Mr de Montalk also thanked all for their present, and wished all health and prosperity in the coming year. Dancing was indulged in till an early hour. The New Year was ushered in in the old customary style, all present standing with crossed arms during the singing of Auld Lang Syne,
