BOWLING

LAST WEEK'S GAMES

Inclement weather prevented any bowling on the local green last Saturday afternoon, but throughout the week various competitions were played off for club trophies. The recent rain has improved the green wonderfully, and with the attentiou given by th« Ground Committee it in all that can be desired.

At a committee meeting of the Awaroa Bowling Club last week arrangements were made for the " draw" in the different competitions to be held throughout the season. The entries were large and it was decided to play them off in ■ections of three, viz., A. B. C. All section matches are to be finished by March 15th, and the finals by March 31st. For first year players four entries were received. In the non-prize winner's competition (sealed handicap), tixteen nominations were handed in. Sixteen entries were received for the Champion Club's Singles. In the Club's Singles (sealed handicap), twenty entries were received, The following was the drawing for the Championship Pairs. Sixteen entries. Mouat and Cohen Smith and Dwerryhouse Hammond and Constable Ellett and Sandin Cuthbert and Hunt Hill and McMurdo Coutts and Leonard Aitkenhead and Sp«ar Several of the competition matches have been played off with the following results :— Sealed Handicap Singles Spear 22, v. Duncan 12 Constable 19, v. Carling 20 Sandin 24, v. Duncan 12 Carling 18, v. Barnard 10 Championship Singles Hill 20, v. Ellett 20 Constable 25, v. Spear 15 Hill 15, v. Mouat 18. Championship Pairs Dwerryhouse, Smith, 18 ; v. Leonard Coutts, 25. Dwerryhouse, Smith 29, v. Constable, Hammond 17. Non-Prize Winner's Competition Hill 19, v. Sandia 15 Gold Star Competition Smith 20, v. Mouat, 7 Arrangements are well in hand for the local club's Christinas tournament and a fair number of entries have been received by the secretary, Mr Mouat.
