AUCKLAND WANDERERS v. HELENSVILLE.

On Tuesday last (St. 'Andrew's Day) a team comprising some well-known Auckland players visited Helensville, and an interesting game with the local team resulted. Contrary to expectations, Helensville shaped well before formidable opponents, and batting first compiled 170 runs. Matheson (39 not out), Mowbray (27) being top scorers. Fawcett (University) secured the bowling honors, while the wicket-keeping of Rowntree (Grafton) was a revelation to most of the local players. The visitors, who were unable to finish their innings, through having to catch the train, had secured 161 for the loss of nine wickets when time was called. Being a man short, Fawcett went in again with. Rowntree, and this partnership gave the local fieldsmen a lively time, Rowntree's 83 not out taking a bit of chasing. Wallace and Johnson divided bowling honors. Following are scores : — HELENSVILLE—First Innings. E. O. McLeod, c Wright, b Faw- • cett ... 20 J. Mason, c Whelan, b G. Mills 9 T.
