The electoral roll for the Maretahi riding of the Waitemata County Council contains 151 names, with an aggregate of 25(j votes.

Through being thrown from a bucking horse at Waimauku on Monday afternoon, Mr Jack Geldard sustained a broken collar-bone. The sufferer was attended to by Dr. Meinhold, and is reported to be progressing favourably.

The Railway Department advertise holiday excursion tickets to Auckland on Saturday and Wednesday next, available for return tn November 13th. On both days the usual evening Auckland^ Helensville train will be delayed to 5.25 p.m.

For the vacant seat on the Waitemata County Council (Kumeu riding) Mr D. McDonald, of Rewiti, announces himself as a candidate. Mr McDonald who is a well-known and respected settler, has had wide experience of road construction and maintenance—an essential county requirement—and promises a fair deal to all if returned.

The Kaipara Dairy Factory Co. are notifying suppliers that definite arrangements for the sale of this season's butter have now been made. The advance for butter-fat supplied has been" raised to 2s per lb from October Ist. A further payment also of 6d per lb. on August and September butter-fat brings the payment for these months up to 2-.

The Helensville Tennis Club have made arrangements to hold a grand concert and dramatic entertainment in the .Lyric Theatre on Thursday, November 18th, in aid^of the funds of the Club. Tickets will be available next week, and full particulars will appear in next issue. Keep this date vacant, by all means. Mr F. Dye (Kaukapakapa). the sitting member, has been again elected ac representative of the combined districts of the Rodney, Great Barrier Islands, and Waitemata Counties, the Helensville, Warkworth, and New Lynn Town Districts, and the Takapuna Borough on the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. During the week the Helensville Cricket Club endeavoured to arrange a match with another eleven, but the adjacent clubs have not got into running order yet, and the local club will have to fall back on a practice match on Saturday. All who possibly can are requested to turn up, to enable a game being played. On Thursday afternoon of last week Mr J. (" Paddy") Hand, met with a serious accident near Huapai while driving a horse and trap. The animal shied at a pool of water lying on the road-side, with the result that Mr Hand was thrown out, and sustained severe injuries to one arm, the elbow being broken in several places. The sufferer was attended by Dr Meinhold, and afterwards sent to Auckland.

Entries for the milk test competition in connection with the HelensviJle A. and P. Association's annual show, close on November 12th, and all who intend to enter for this interesting, and instructive competition are urged to do so at once. The prizes awarded to the winners of the test are well worth having, and for first place a silver cup to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals is an additional prize.

A serious accident occurred at Kaukapakapa one day last week, to the 5 year old daughter of Mr P. Drinaan. The child was riding to school behind an older girl, when she fell from the horse to the pavement, striking the top ot her head, and becoming unconscious. She was brought to rlelensville, and an operation was performed by Dr. Meinhold and Dr. Carrick Robertson (Auckland). The patient remained unconscious for five days, but is now progressing favourably.

In spite of the very boisterous weather, the social held in the Parakai Hall last evening was well attended. Euchre attracted a large number of players, and prizes were won by Mrs Ferrall (who tied with four other ladies) and Mr W. Curtis (who tied with two qther competitors). Consolation prizes were awarded Miss Bright and Mr Love. Dancing to Mrs and Miss Malligan's first-rate music was kept up till late, and an enjoyable sapper was served by the ladies.

An unfortunate accident occurred during the social on Thursday evening last, to the power plant providing light to the Agricultural Hall. Through a belt slipping the dynamo was considerably damaged, and the light failed. Candles and kerosene lamp 3 were hurriedly gathered, and the social "carried on." Through the accident, no pictures were shown on Saturday evening, but the Hall Society anticipate having everything in good order again by this coming Saturday.

For the Mairetahi riding ot the W alternate* County Counoil, the following candidates have been nominated for election :—Mr H. Aitkenhead, nominated by Messrs B. F. McCarthy, Robert Ferrall, James Mackie and David Rennie; Mr Jas. McLeod, nominated by Messrs M. H. Sheffield and G. McDonald. For Kaukapakapa riding, Mr A. E. Diprose (nominated by Messrs S. J. Frost and Frank Dye) was returned unopposed. For Kunieu riding, Mr A. H- Dillon was nominated by Messrs J. W. H-arrison and Chas Hunt; Mr D. McDonald, nominated by Messrs J. Hand and C. Watts,
