The visitors, who came up by motor lorry, did not arrive until after mid-day, and as they desired to leave on the return, journey at 5 o'clock, only a one-innings match was played. S. and C. batted'first and compiled 121, the top scorers being Gillespie (25) and Yon Rotter (24). The local team were five wickets down for 45 when Wallace went in, and joined by Hand soon after, this partnership took the score to 113 for six. Wallace's 52 (which included one 6 and five 4's) was a fine effort, ard Hand's 22 was secured through this player's remarkable batting ability. Helensville were all dismissed for 133, thus gaining a meritorious victory by 12 runs. The visitors' fielding was very safe, but the bowling was hardly at home on the fast concrete pitch. An effort will be made to have a team visit Helensville on St. Andrew's Day (November 30th). This day is a bank holiday only, but it is expected an eleven could be available locally. In the meantime, players are advised to get in plenty of practice, as matches will be plentiful nearer Christmas and from then on.
The newly-formed-Watersiders' Cricket Club are putting in a lot of useful practice, and possess some very keen players. A challenge to the Helensville Club is mooted.
Waimauku have formed a strong club, and have purchased a ground with a view to putting down a grass pitch. It is probable that a match will be arranged with Helensville at an early date.
A general meeting of the Helensville Club will be held next Tuesday evening, at Mr Cullens' shop. Arrangements for future matches is the chief business to attend to.
