Paramount pictures surmount Kaipara fixtures* A prospectus for a new daily paper in Auckland has been issued. Capital is put down at £300,000. The Railway Department announces that on September 25th and 29th (Avondale Races) the usual 10.15 a.m. Auckland to Helensville train will not leave Auckland till 11.45 a.m., arriving Helensvillo 3.10 p.m. For Bronchial Coughs, take Woods' Great Peppermint Cure 1/9, 2/9 A report of the Helensville A. and P. Association's executive and ganer al oommittee meetings held on Monday last, will appear in next issue. The balance-sheet in connection with the recent ball will also be published. The Auckland Savage Club Choir, which held a very successful concert in Helensville last year, have agreed to give another concert here on Saturday, October 23rd. Keep this date open, and watch for further particulars. The highly-bred Clydesdale stallion, Royal Warrant, will be at the services of bleeders in this and surrounding districts during the season This is a particularly well-bred animal.from highclass stock. Full particulars are obtainable from Mr V. Aitkenhead, Parakai. The Church of England Ladies' Guild are holding a grand concert in aid of the Helensvilfe Memorial Church Fund, on Thursday, October 7th. Arrangements have been made to procure first-rate Auckland talent. Further particulars will appear next week.
A fancy dress social, in aid of the Woodhill Tennis Club, will be held in the public hall on F-iday, September 24th. Socials in aid of the funds have been held fortnightly through the winter and a successful season is to be marked by this fancy dress affair. ■

If sufficient passengers are booked MrF. Eddleston will run his new taxi through to Avondale Races on Saturday, September 25th. Intending passengers are invited to communicate with Springside House, Parakai. Mr Eddelston also announces that he is prepared to undertake trips to any parts, car and driver being thoroughly reliable.
At a meeting of the Kaipara Rugby Union last Saturday evening it was decided to donate the sum o( £2 10s for a football for the use of the Helensville school boys. Mr M. Matheson said he had moved in this direction earlier in th« season and was surprised that the boya had not got the ball. The secretary was instructed to procure a ball and leave it in the hands of the headmaster (Mr Hill) for use next season.
A subscription list has at last been circulated around the town, for donations towards erecting a fence around the swimming bath at the school. A good amount has been subscribed by business people and | residents. It is the intention of the School Committee to hold a working bee at the school on Saturday week next, September 25tb, to erect the fence around the swimming bath. All who are keen to assist are cordially invited to come along and help in this good work.
The "Otago Daily Times" says; "We have been Bhown'a Dunedin timber merchant's invoice of date November, 1898, in which 225 feet of red pine, of various sizes, are charged for, the cost being 225, including a charge of 2s for cartage. As showing how the rates for both timber and cartage have increased since the time mentioned, our informant has supplied us with the following comparative figures: 1898, 225 feet 225; 1918, £2 10s-7d; 1919, £3 2 3 6d ; 1920, £3 18s 7d. In these figures the cartage for the respective years is included, and for that item the figures are 3s, ss, Bs, 95."
