A unique service was held at the K&ukapakapa Methodist Church last Sunday afternoon, to inaugurate the opening of the Cradle Roll. All the mothers of the district whose infants' names appeared on the roll, had been invited to be present. Quite a good number of infants and children were brought along. The children kept very quiet, and unlike adults at times, all kept wide awake. The Rev. F. C, Pace gave a suitable address and during the service presented the parents with the Cradle Roll certificates, A social on Thursday evening last in the Bible Class room, was given by the young ladies. Despite awful weather, a fair attendance was recorded. G-ames, songs and refreshments were the order of the evening. Next month a similar social will'he given by the young men. On Tuesday last a number of local ladies provided afternoon tea for those who attended the stock sale, an action which was much appreciated by buyers and others who were present. Proceeds will be devoted to the funds of the local Methodist Church. We understand that arrangements are being made to provide afternoon tea every sale day, proceeds being devoted to different local institutions in the town. On Thursday evening of last week a smoke ooncert was held in the Kaukapakapa Hall in honour of Mr W, Gallagher, a very popular settler and "mine host" of the Kaukapakapa Hotel, who is retiring from business. Mr H. E. Cole presided over a representative gathering, and on behalf of the residents of the district presented the guest with a gold mounted oigarette case and match-box, and asked him to accept on Mrs Gallagher's behalf a manicure set. Mr Gallagher feelingly returned thanks on behalf of His wife and himself. The usual toasts were honoured during the evening, and a number of musical items contributed,
