MANGROVE AREAS.
Ihe necessity for utilising our valu- 4 able mud flats is now being recognised' if in other parts of the Northland. Recently MrAlf. C. Yarborough wrote as follows to th« Hokianga Times :—"ln view of the desirability of making some of our best lands on the frontage productive, I suggest that the different branches of the Farmers' Union and other reprtsentative societies should make an appeal %* to the Hon. Minister of Marine to amend the conditions under which the mudflats ■ / can be utilised. At present I have . a comniunicatton from him promising to introduce legislation to lengthen the teim of tenure, bub considering the nature and position of these mudflats, security of tenure and protection for improvements is essential. Several settlers have approached me on the subject and there ; is evidently a general desire to have . •' these foreshore lands put in occupation. This desire should be given voice to and the attention of the Minister drawn."
