FOOTBALL.
GLORIT V. POBT ALBERT
We are indebted to a Glorit correspondent for the following racy account of the above match : —
The Glorit footballers had a real country joy-ride through twenty miles of mud to Port Albert on Saturday week last, and got "dished-up" by five points to three —a converted try to a try. Port Albert had the better of the game, and should have snatched another half dozen points. The ground was splendid and the referee, Mr W. Booth, satisfied everyone. M. Becroft scored for Port Albert after a good sprint and Saunders converted. Gordon Mather was too fast for the Port Albert backs, and got over the line after a 70 yards run. Port Albert is" a good team —G. Worker, D. McCrae and Coulam being especially fine forwards. These players, with F. Reed and Saunders among the backs, showed up most. Saunders must have been wearing a pair of Dufty's old boots, as he could place-kick a ball anywhere inside the half-way line, but fortunately for Glorit, the fit couldn't have been too good, as he missed the post by very narrow margins on many occasions. R. Gardner, D. Kapia (of the forwards), and W. Johnston, W. Gush and G. Mather (of the backs), did best for Glorit. The Port Albert players, under the presidency of Mr G. Nicholson, treated the Glorit team splendidly.
The Glorit footballers hope to give Helensville a decent game on Saturday. This will be the first football match played in Glorit. With church once a month and football once a week, Glorit is just starting to sow its wild oats. All one wants is a working bee ("Everyone is buzzbuzzy now") to clean up the cemetery and we shall be 'set.
