A most enjoyable time was Bpent on Saturday afternoon at the local golf link*, about thirty players and their friends taking advantage of the beautiful afternoon and visiting the grounds. Afternoon tea was kindly provided by Mrs F. W. Strange, and was greatly appreciated by those present.

An important announcement from the N. Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. appears in this issue. The firm have completed their new and up-to-date sale yards at Kaukapakapo, and will hold the opening sale in the yards on Monday, July 19. Entries will be received by Mr Wm. Außtin, Kaukapakapa, or at the office of the company at Auckland.

Messrs C. H. Spinley and W. Downer, the gentlemen appointed to collect subscriptions on behalf of the Memorial Fund from the avenue area of Helensville, have met with a good deal of success, and to date have received the sum of £43 13s. Subscription lists are also held by residents at Parakai, etc., and the railway end of the town is also receiving attention. It is reported that very few refusals have been met with by collectors.

At a meeting of the Helensville Cricket Club on Monday evening, it was decided to proceed with the laying down of a concrete pitch on Mr Strange's property, in readiness for an early start with the game next season. Tickets are now distributed for the Club's benefit picture night at the Lyric, and as a first class programme is to be shown, those who attend will get good value for their outlay, and also assist the club's funds. June 29th is the date.

A short meeting of the Helensville Domain Board was held on Thursday evening. In connection with an increasod grant for the ladies' swimming bath, Hon. C. J. Parr, member for Eden, wrote stating he had submitted the matter to the Minister in chaTge of the Tourist Department. He was dubious about the Board being granted any increase on the sum already voted. On the other hand, Hon. J. G. Coates thought the Board was entitled to increased grant, and had promised to interview the Miniiter.

A meeting of ladies interested in the holding of a leap y«ar ball in Helensville, was held on Tuesday evening. About 22 ladies were present, and it was decided to hold the function on Wednesday, July 14th. Miss E. It was decided that tickets be one guinea, and that invitations be issued to the gentlemen. The toy wonder-child of yesterday has suddenly dawned upon the motion picture world as a star of the iirst magnitude, with a future radiant, with the promises of brilliant artistic successes. Jesse L. Lasky discovered her —and picked her out as one of the most promising actresses he had ever seen.
