HENRY WHITE, R.A. F. R. EAMES, Auditors. Some discussion took place on the hall account, which shows a loss to the Association. Members however, agreed that if the present arrangement re leasing was not in existence, the hall would be a pure " white elephant," instead of being a " pie-bald elephant," as it were. Mr Matheson said it was a matter for congratulation that the finances showed an improvement. He thought the Association had been justified in putting up some of the fees. The prize money this year had been paid in full, which was also a pleasing feature. On the motion of Mr C. H. Spinley, seconded by Mr W. W. L. Bradly, the balance sheet was adopted. ANNUAL REPORT. The Secretary's annual report read : — At the beginning of the year the financial state of the Association was not in too favourable a position, and it was decided by the Executive Committee to try and make the coming Show a great success. In order to have a better state of affairs before the Show took place, the Association departed from its ordinary custom and held a ball, which —owing mainly to the efficient work of the ladies —was a splendid success, and increased the funds of the Association by about £40. Secretary and Treasurer.—The secretary and treasurer of the Association, Mr L. L. Bailey, Dwing to pressing business in connection with the Farmers' Union as secretary was unable to continue in the position and much as the Association regretted the step, his resignation was received. After having received applications, Mr A. J. Skelton was elected to the position. Annual Show. —The annual Show which took place on the 29th January, 1920, was a success in every way, especially as regards a fine day and a record attendance. The sum of £10 odd was taken for gate and door money and altogether the Association can only say that through the unfailing energy of the president and stewards, a very enjoyable as well as successful Show was held. Resignation* and New Members. —During the year six resignations were received anc nine new members were enrolled, the names of the new members being : —Messrs Allport, Cole Wilkie, Norries, J. H. Mason. Meredith, J. H. Leonard, Booth McDonald, Ltd., C. C. Gubb. Life Members. —One was added to the list of life members ir the person of Mr L. L. Bailey the Executive Committee elect ing him in recognition of valuer services rendered. Donations. —Donations to th« Show funds do not show a: healthy a. state as is required t< make and keep the Associatiot in a financial position and it ha: been proposed to adopt a systen (namely three persons to collec donations) whereby the Associa tion will benefit. Entry Fees and Entries. —Th< entry fees show a decided de crease on last year's figures, am there has in the past been aver; unsatisfactory habit of entr; without paying, thereby entail ing a great amount of unneces sary work. The entries receive were lower in the total figures being about 200 short of las year's figures and it behoves th< energetic, enterprising farmer to be up and doing to make thei own show a success and oncoui ,age competition in all th j classes. I Cups. —The cup presented b IMr L. L. Bailey, for the milk tes
competition was won this year by Mr P. J. McLeod. Dairy farmers in general should really be keener in entering, when it is , recognised generally that dairy farming is the chief asset in this district. Mr R. Harper won again this year .the cap presented by the president (Mr JM.W. Rimmer), I and this year the cup becomes | his property. ! Mr R. Harper has also won the cup presented by Mr Alex. Bell, with 56 points in first and second prizes, besides the third prizes with 1 points each. Mr P. J. McLeod second with 36 points without the third prize points. These gentlemen should be complimented for the interest they have taken in the shows in the past and for their magnificent stock. Finance.—The balance sheet this year shows an increase in the assets of £100 over last year, and generally, . although the finances could and should be healthier, is in a better state than at the beginning of the year. General. —'Taking all things in general, the new committee and president will be able to congratulate themselves if they carry out as efficiently the next year's work, and have the assets of the Association correspondingly better at the end of the year over their beginning, as the present president and committee have done. A. J. SKELTON, Secretary. On the motion of Mr L. L. Bailey, seconded by Mr F. W. Strange, the annual report was adopted. RETIRING PRESIDENT. Mr Spinley in moving a vote of thanks to the retiring president (Mr N.. W. Rimmer) remarked on the splendid services Mr Rimmer had rendered the Association during his two years in the position. The motion was seconded by Mr McHardy, and carried with acclamation. Mr Rimmer returned thanks, stating he didn't quite get the Association " out of the soup," but he had done his best. He was disappointed at the failure of the farmers generally to take sufficient interest in the Show. He had had a pretty bad run getting entries. There was more " ginger " wanted, and unless the whole district took more interest in the Show it was not j worth while holding it. i ELECTION OF OFFICERS. j Patrons : C. J.
