SAND DUNE RECLAMATION.
Eight members of the committee formed in connection with the above matter attended a meeting at the Farmers' Union Board-room on Monday evening. Mr R. Hoe was chairman, and in the absence of the secretary (Mr N. W. Rimmer) Mr McLeod was appointed secretary pro tern. It was decided that the committee bear the name of the Kaipara Sand-dune Reclamation Committee. An informal discussion took place on the best methods of dealing with the question of sand-dune reclamation. The Chairman stated he was satisfied the sand area could be reclaimed at reasonable cost with marram grass and lupin, and the Government was coming forward with cash to assist in the work. The feeling of the committee was that individuals could not satisfactorily cope with the matter. An owner might treat his land to his boundary, and then encounter Crown or native land on which nothing was being done. On the motion of Mr Phillips, seconded by Mr Evans, it was decided that the committee recommend to the Government that the latter acquire the whole of the sand-dune area from Muriwai to South Head, for the purposes of reclamation. It was also resolved to forward a letter to Mr R P. Greville, Commissioner of Crown Lands, thanking him for initiating the scheme for reclaiming sand-dune areas in the Kaipara district. Mr C. J. Parr, M.P. for Eden, is also to be written to asking for his co-operation and assistance, No more business arising, the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair.
