HELENSVILLE BRANCH N.Z.F.U.
ANNUAL MEETING,
The annual meeting of the Helensville branch of the New Zealand Fanners' Union, was held in the Board-room on Saturday, May Bth, at 1.30 p.m. There were 20 members present, also the organising secretary Mr L.L. Bailey.
The president, Mr John Grey, occupied the chair, and after the minutes of the previons meeting were read, the secretary (Mr H. P. McLeod) reported on the finances, stating that,there was a credit balance in hand of £8 18s sd. The secretary was congratulated on the economical way he had carried out the finances of the branch, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to him. The unfinancial list showed that there were members whose subscriptions were not paid, and these would be forthcoming next week.
The election of officers resulted —President, Mr Jas. McLeod ; vice-president, Mr M. H. Sheffield ; secretary and treasurer, Mr Harold MGLeod ; dslegate to the Kaipara Sub-Provincial District Executive, Mr J. Grey; delegate to the Auckland Provincial Conference, Mr Jas. McLeod.
A letter was read from the j Auckland Provincial Executive, re the reorganisation scheme. It was unanimously decided to support the present scheme of SubProvincial Districts. Members'* were all of the opinion that more useful work and information had been accomplished by this system since its inauguration, than had been done under the old system, and the delegate was instructed to support the sub-pro-vincial scheme at the Auckland Conference.
A remit was passed requesting that the Government be asked to establish a tyre-tax, the income derived therefrom to be expended on main and arterial concrete roads. As there is a remit to the same effect on the agenda paper for the Auckland Conference it was resolved to leave this matter in abeyance until after the Conference, and further, that when the Hamilton-Helensville Good Road Commission sits, this Branch be requested to gather and give evidince and all available information to lay before the Commission.
The organiser addressed the meeting on various matters of importance to the organisation, including the necessity of obtaining legislation to compel seedmerchants to guarantee the purity of seeds, and the necessity of the abolition of the draft charge on wool.
