NEW ZEALAND BUTTER.
A message from London says : Butter producers in New Zealand may be interested to learn that an early date there will depart from this country several representatives of large companies I (representing business interest of many million pounds in value), who intend to negotiate with the producers in the Dominion for the purchase if possible of next season's output or portion of it. Great developments were taking place with regard to New Zealand butter, and unless they had been met and checked by those; representing New Zealand interests in London what might have been equivalent to a huge trust might have been thrust J upon this country. ; Of course,-New. Zealand's con- | tract with the Imperial Government for its output of butter extends until 31st of August next, at the price of 181s per cwt. In July of 1919, Sir Thomas Mackenzie learned that the British Government had paid to the Danes 282s per cwt., and he then requested the Ministry of Food to re-open the question with a view to their granting New Zealand producers the higher price. 1 This they refused to do, and I from that time to the present date the High Commissioner has constantly urged that in justice to New Zealand producers the Ministry of Food should increase the price paid to the Dominion to something approximating that paid to> the Danes, the Home but-ter-makers and the Irish buttermakers. This the Ministry still declines to do.
