THE ELECTIONS

COATES FOR KAIPARA.

HUGE MAJORITY.

Election day passed off fairly quietly in Helensville, little or no excitement being manifested. Polling was fairly heavy, though a large number failed to record their votes. Mr Gregory, the Labour candidate, polled a good many more votes here than most people imagined he would, but his record throughout the electorate was not brilliant, and Hon. J. G. Coates is returned with the second biggest majority in the Dominion. Messrs C. H. Spinley, deputy returning officer (licensing), W. Taylor (electoral), J. Simcock (absentee voters, etc.) conducted the polling at the Courthouse booth. KAIPARA J. G. Coates, G ... 4060 A. The results were also announced at the Post Office to an interested congregation. Mr Ansell, postmaster, and his staff had a very busy time from 7 p.m. to midnight, dealing with the large amount of work which poured in.

Following are some who acted as deputy returning officers : —

Parkhurst: Messrs J. Leonard and C. P. Thompson.

Parakai: Messis R. J. Nicholls and C. J. Claridge?
