MARKET REPORT.
Mr J. Jones, Auctioneer, N«w City Market, Auckland, report as follows : —
We had a heavy supply of poultry at our last sale, and values were lower. There is a large quantity of hens of the lighter class coming forward, which had the tendency to lower rates for all classes. Prices are now considerably higher than this time last year. Turkeys prime roosters, geese, and extra heavy hens are in good demand. Pigs, market firm, good demand for weaners. New potatoes are lower, large quantity coming in. Eggs, butter, and bacon, market firm. Fruit, all in strong demand, and prices high. The grain market shows an upward tendency. We quote :— POULTRY Hens, extra prime 6s 6d to 7s sd, prime 6s to 6s) 3d, good 5s 3d to 5s lOd, small and light 4s to 4s 6d ; ducks, young 4s to 5s 6d, Indian runner 3s 6d to 4s; turkeys gobblers, prime up to £1 6s 6d, light 16s to 18s 6d, hens 7s to 9s 6d, prime 11s 6d; geese 7s to 9s; roosters, prime up to Oa 6d, good 7a to Bs, small 4s to 6d> cockrclls Is 3d to 3s 4d, chicks 6d to le. PIGS Weaners, £1 8s to £2 4s. FARM PRODUCE Potatoes, prime Id to I] 4&, small and inferior, sales hard to effect; onions 40s ; pumpkins 19s 6d ; swedes 6s. DAIRY PRODUCE Hams Is sd, sides Is 4d to ls4Hd; cheese is to Is 2d ; eggs 2s 3d ; lard Is Id ; butter Is 2d to Is 4d. FRUIT Lemcns LBs to £1 5s 6d, plums 6s to 9s 6d. GRAIN Sharps lls, rice meal 11s to 12s, wheat meal £13 10s, maize 9s, prime Southern •chaff £14 10s, barley 6s 9d to 7s 6d.
