A. euchre and dance, under the auspices of the Anglican Ladies' Guild, will be held in the Agricultural Hall this evening, as a final wind-up to a very success-ful-season. Admission will be gentlemen %/-, ladies 1/6.

In connection with the Catholic Bazaar Queen Carnival, a euchre and dance in support of one of the queens will be held in the Agricultural Hall on Monday evening next. A good night is promised patrons. Further particulars appear in the advt.

The rise in the cost of living in the British Empire and other countries of the world was mentioned by Mr Coates at his Helensville meeting. New Zealand's rise since 1913 was 43 per cent, which £he speaker claimed was least of any country. Statistics show, however, that in two countries in the British Empire—South Africa and India—the.rise has-been only §5 per cent. Qn the Other hand. Great Britain has experienced an increase in the coat of Hying of 120 per cent, while S,weden has touched fche record mark with ■ the phenotijinal rise of 220 per penf.

In connection with the Auckland Agricultural Show on Friday and Saturday of this week, special train arrangements are announced. On Saturday afternoon the usual 3.15 Kaipara train will not leave Auckland till 5.12 p.m., and will run through to Wellsford the same night. In addition a train will be run from Kaukapakapa on Saturday morning, to connect with the down train at Helensville. . A clearing sale of furniture and effects in the estate of the late Miss Frances McLeod will be held by Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons on Monday next, December Ist. The sale will take place at the residence, Garfield Road, at 10.30 a.m. (prior to cattle sale). At a-meeting of the Waitemata County Council on Friday last, it was decided to lease the Helensville Show paddock and stables for one year from October 10th last, at a rental of £62.—The recently made by-laws controlling the Parakai sewerage drainage system were confirmed, Speaking at Helensville on Thursday night last, Hon. Mr Coates said:" I regret to say that there are men and women in this country who are disloyal and dissatisfied with the country, and the best thing these people can do is to get out of the country. So long as lam a member of Parliament, disloyalists and believers in Bolshevism will have one enemy who will fight them and their tactics."

At a meeting of the Kaipara branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association, on Tuesday evening, Mr Jas. Stewart resigned from the position of president, owing to pressure of business. In accepting the resignation with regret, the branch decided that a letter of appreciation and thanks be sent to Mr Stewart, for his interest in the branch since its inception.

The organising Secretary of the KaiPjira and Northern Wairoa sub-provincial districts of the Farmers' Union. Mr L. L. Bailey, has made arrangements for a series of lectures to be given through the Northern Wairoa branches by Mr S. Burton, M.R.C.V.S., of the Government Veterinary Department, on the time table originally arranged for Mr T. Patterson, agricultural lecturer, who is unable to visit that district until after the new year.

A very pleasant time was spent at the Terminus Hotel on Tuesday evening last when Mr and Mrs R. Cuthbert entertained about thirty friends and relatives, in honour of their daughter Ethel's engagement to Mr W. T. (Tas.) Morgan, who has recently returned from active service. A musical programme, produc-tive-of some first-class items, was followed by a fine supper arranged by Mise Doris Cuthbert. Toasts honouring the engaged couple, and parents of both parties, were proposed and responded to, and many complimentary remarks were made. Mr A. Hammond occupied the position of chairman, and was a host in himself. The gathering broke up with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne," and a promise of a much larger function in the not too distant future.

The formation of a new county, to embrace the ridings of Kaukapakapa, Wainui, Birkenljead, Takapuqa, and Pukeatua, at present included in the County of Waitemata, was advanced a further stage en Saturday last, when a meeting of delegates representing the above ridings addressed about forty ratepayers at Dairy Flat. Messrs F. Dye, .1. Foley, and J. Broady, riding members of the Waitemata County Council, supplied considerable information to the meeting, which was characterised by its unanimity toward the formation of the new county, the suggested name of which was "Akarana," A Ratepayers'league was formed to forward the formation of a new county, and to advooate various other matters for the advancement of the distriats concerned.

The residents of Kaeo (North Auckland) recently held a bazaar in aid of funds for. a district soldiers' memorial, and raised £128.

The usual picture programme for*" Saturday, December 6th, will be screened on Thursday, December 4th, owing to the Church of England Bazaar being held in the Agricultural Hall on .the - former date. . *

The Soldiers' Memorial meeting on Monday evening was attended by about 50 residents. It was decided to erect a monument, subscribers to vote on the question of site. We are reluctantlycompelled to hold over a full report.

The annual meeting of the Waitemata County Council was held on Wednesday, when there was a full attendance of councillor. A good deal.of outstanding business was dealt with. Mr Aitkenhead was re-elected chairman for the .third time.

The local fishermen's deputation, which waited on the Hon. J. G. Coates on Friday last in reference to several matters affecting the industry on the Kaipara, were given a good deal of information by the Minister, who promised to draft a report for them. Full particulars will be published when further information comes to hand.

Preparations for the Anglican Ladies' Guild Bazaar, which is to be held in the Agricultural Hall on Saturday of next week, December 6th, are now well in hand, and the event bears every indication of being a most successful function.; Numerous stalls and side shows will be a feature, and there will be plenty to attract young and old.
