A welcome social to Rev. Clement *" Houchen, the newly appointed Anglican vicar of the Helensville parochial district, ''" was given by parishioners in the >- Agricultural If all on Thursday evening last. A large attendance w"as tec.or.ded; j and a yery pleasant time was spent."""^ During the evening speeches of \yelcome were made by Rev. F.C.Bace (MethqdistV and Rev. W. ButterwVth (Presbyterian)', ar + d Mr H. White junr,, as vicar's v/ardp o ; also spoke on behalf of the parishioners, Rev. Houchen returned thanks in a pleasant.speech. Songs were given by Messrs White, Battle, and Lynch, all being highly appreciated.
A tip-top supper was served by the ladies of the parish. The young folk then indulged in dancing, which was kept up till a late hour.
