TREATMENT OF SOILS.
[CONTINUED]
Touching on crops, Mr Patterson stated that the best crop in the world was lucerne —there was no question about it. Lucerne, which belonged to the legume, or pod-bearing family of plants, got all its.nitrogen out of the air. isEo other plant family did that. Therefore every crop or plant of the legume family necessarily improved the soil.
Mr Patterson answered a numr ber of questions put to him.
Mr Aitkenhead, in moving a vote of thanks to the lecturer, congratulated him on the very instructive and interesting address given. Mr J. A. Wilson, who seconded, also said a few words in praise of the address. The vote of thanks was carried with acclamation.
The chairman also added his meed of thanks to the lecturer. Mr Patterson returned thanks, adding his appreciation of the many kindnesses he had met with at the hands of local farmers and members of the Union.
[A number of other interesting remarks will be published in our next issue.]
A good allotment in centre of the town, with nice house of six rooms and every convenience, is advertised for sale on easy terms.
