NATIONAL PROHIBITION.
The national prohibition party commenced their campaign, so far as Helensville is conoerned, with a meeting in the Star
Theatre on Wednesday evening
of last week. A fair number -""attended, and the meeting was addressed at length by Rev. John Dawson, who has returned from the States and Canada, after exhaustive enquiries into the results of probibition in those countries.. He was convinced that prohibition was the right thing. It was the master method and any other method was useJess, The speaker dealt at length —on' the results of the before r mentioned countries having voted "dry." Prominent business men - and leaders in the affairs of those '" countries had supported the jpjuiC^jm!!, and had given the Speaker every facility to acquire knowledge. From what he had seen'he was convinced that the right, practical, righteous, and safe thing for the people of New A Zealand to do was to vote for national prohibition at the coming poll. He advised them not to waste their votes on State control. It had no chance, firstly ■ '}■ because the State could not control the.liquor traffic, and that it would have to purchase it. If got §0 per cent plus one at the" forthcoming poll, they Ttyould have national prohibition, •■srThe speaker was listened to attentively, and several questions were asked a,nd answered.
