A Gazette notice states that.Recent soundings taken in the Kaipara Bar by Captain Bollons on the Hinemba show that the south shoal immediately to the southwaidqf the'bar channel is still ex? tending tq the northward, and the water is deepening q n . the squth-western ed.ga qf the Nqrth SrH. The best water at present is with the lower beacon in lin§ with the flagstaff, where' the depth ia 23ft M.L,W.S. The water is sli B htly deeper north qf the line, and shallower squ.th qf it. When abreast of the Tqry ahoal, vessels should be kept slightly to the nqrthward qf the Jine qf -beacoiiß, qr with the beacons one or two • widths! of themselves open of One another, and a careful watch should be kept of the signal-staff. - '
