HELENSVILLE FIRE BRIGADE.
To the Editor,
Sir,-—?I notice by an advertisement in the ECHO that the chairman of the Town Board is inviting, applications for volunteers to join a Fire Brigade. The notice also, says that the Brigade is to be under the control of the Board. What has become of the Brigade which was formed about four years ago ? Was it controlled by the Town Board, or has the Board just awakened to its responsibilities and decided to control a Brigade ? If I remember rightly, during the period I was captain of the old Brigade, the members were always referred to the Town Board whenever new materials were wanted, or whenever the Brigade wanted anything done. The Town Board also started to look round for a site for a fire brigade station, and the present chairman promised at one election that if he was elected he would see that a fire station was erected within a'year. Nothing has been done, and the town as far as fire prevention is concerned, is in a worse state now than ever it has been. The members of the old brigade have not been treated fairly either. Another matter is this : It was said that the gear the Board'have is in good condition. I don't see how it can be in good condition, considering a test has not been made for.months. The last time the hose was used it was full of pin holes and the-water escaped in all directions. I am writing this to let the public know something about the position. Thanking you tor the spacer —I am; etc., A. Robinson, Captain late fire brigade.
