RETURNED SOLDIERS' ASSOCIATION.
KAIPARA BRANCH
An executive meeting of the above branch was held on Wednesday evening of last week, and was well attended. Mr Jas. Stewart, president, occupied the chair.
Mr E. F. Andrews, as a member of the Auckland Provincial Council, attended and addressed the meeting, one of the principal matters dealt with being an explanation of the A.P.C.'s. action in regard to the dispute over financial matters with Dominion headquarters. After hearing Mr Andrews, the meeting j passed a resolution upholding the A.-P-C« i in the action they had taken in the j matter. The speaker also dealt with the work of the Repatriation department, and explained the Government's methods in negotiating for the purchase of properties and estates for soldier settlement. The speaker mentioned that a property had to be of proven value before the Association 'would recommend its purchase, and SO careful were the Association's valuers that it was very rarely - that a property thpy had recommended was turned dqwn. - Mr Andrews dealt with other matters, and was given a hearty vote of thanks for his interesting address. It was decided to make arrangements for the organiser to visit Helensville and outlyipg districts during the first fortnight in October, fqr the purpose of having *he le>cal branch thoroughly /^wjjganised and placed on a sound fqoting. '^^jfcfeubjcomrnitte, to take care pf this \Jpirkcular matter, was set up. Some discussipn ensued in conection >with"th« Qkahuk.ura Estate (Parker's) is under, offer to the Government (thrqugh the Eaipara branch) for soldier settlement. It was decided to move in the direction of urging the Government to purchase this very desiratye property. The meeting unanimously expressed satisfaction vyith the Government's scheme, making special mention of |he lenient way in which deceased Inez's relatives and mgn serving vyith imperial details had been treated. Mr It. Hinton, secretary of the branoh, tendered his resignation on account of his departure from the district. The resignation was received with regret, and Mr C. J. Claridge was elected to the position.
